Yorkshire Life Aquatic's is Lucy Meredith and Zoe Parker, who first joined forces in 2013 after discovering a mutual love of synchronised swimming and mermaids as well as a concern for the state of the oceans and their inhabitants.

We use art and performance to promote positive body image, health and well-being to the public. We  also use creative activism using mermaids to highlight environmental animal rights issues focusing on the oceans. Our performances are unique and we pride ourselves in making work that is distinctive and brave as well as entertaining. We have a dry land synchronised swimming dance team, a water based show and run numerous workshops on land and in water with real mermaids! Our latest project is The Human Aquarium. You can find out more here.

Described by audiences as uplifting, and quirky, Yorkshire Life Aquatic's work has wide appeal and is suitable for all ages. We specialise in immersive, interactive experiences that bring you closer to the 'world of the sea'…

I am a professional actor with over 15 years experience working across theatre, film and TV. Since graduating from Bretton Hall with BA (Hons) in Drama, I have performed at venues such as York Theatre Royal and West Yorkshire Playhouse and can currently be seen in Sci-fi series Chronicles of Syntax. I have written, acted and directed for arts events such Development Lab, Light Night and Emerge festival as a solo performer and though collaborations with other artists. I used to be a competitive synchronised swimmer for over six years and part of the Sussex County championship team. I wanted to combine my love for synchronised swimming and performance, and this was a catalyst for YLA.

In addition, I am the project manager for Leeds Waterfront Festival.

As a producer, director, and performer, I have a wide range of skills. I set up Yorkshire Life Aquatic with Lucy in 2013 because I loved the idea of water and dance together. What better than to team up with a synchronised swimmer? As well as YLA, I collaborate on Tea and Tolerance ( facilitating and conceiving participatory live art conversations), Raised (dramaturgy, facilitation for inclusive dance performance) and choreographer on a range of projects for Irregular arts. I am also an 'associate artist' for IMove Arts. Together with Lucy, I  direct, produce, choreograph, teach and perform for the company.

“Brilliant, splash-tastic fun. I think the mix of movement, costume, music and water is pretty irresistible.”
